1977– · Japanese

Dai Fujikura (born 1977) is a Japanese composer based in Britain. Born in Osaka, he moved to the UK at fifteen on a music scholarship to Dover College, then studied composition at Trinity College of Music and the Royal College of Music. He earned a doctorate at King’s College London, where he studied with George Benjamin. His catalogue ranges from solo and chamber pieces to a large body of concertos and orchestral works, and it includes several operas, among them Solaris (2015), after Stanisław Lem’s novel. His orchestral music is known for its shimmering, fluttering and trembling textures and its fine attention to instrumental colour.
