Conductor

Jakub Hrůša

Czech · 1981

Jakub Hrůša, born in Brno in 1981, is widely regarded as the leading Czech conductor of his generation and one of the most sought-after musicians in the world. He studied conducting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with the great Jiří Bělohlávek, and has built a career at the summit of musical life: he is chief conductor of the Bamberg Symphony, music director of the Royal Opera House in London (Covent Garden), and music director designate of the Czech Philharmonic, the orchestra of his homeland. Steeped in the Czech tradition, and a passionate advocate of Dvořák, Smetana, Janáček, Martinů and Suk, he is equally at home across the central-European repertoire and in opera. Named Conductor of the Year by Musical America for 2026, he brings to this all-Czech-flavoured programme an unmatched feeling for the idiom, the colour and the storytelling of his native land’s music.
