Conductor

Nathalie Stutzmann

French · 1965

Nathalie Stutzmann, born in Suresnes in 1965, is one of the most remarkable musicians of her generation, a celebrated contralto who has become, in mid-career, an equally acclaimed conductor. The daughter of singers, she built a major international career as one of the world’s finest contraltos, renowned for her interpretations of French mélodie, German lieder and the Baroque, with an extensive discography on labels such as Erato and Deutsche Grammophon. She then turned seriously to the podium, and now serves as Music Director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the first woman to hold that post, and has been named music director of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic from the 2026–27 season. Her deep experience as a singer informs a conducting style prized for its feeling for line, breath and expressive warmth. This concert marks her long-awaited debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
