Conductor
Tarmo Peltokoski
Finnish · 2000
Tarmo Peltokoski, born in Vaasa, Finland, in 2000, is one of the most talked-about young conductors in the world, a product of the celebrated Finnish conducting tradition who has risen with astonishing speed. A pianist and composer as well as a conductor, he studied with the legendary Finnish conducting pedagogue Jorma Panula (and with Sakari Oramo and Esa-Pekka Salonen), and was still a teenager when major orchestras began to take notice. He has since been appointed to a remarkable cluster of senior posts for one so young, including Music Director of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, and Music Director designate of the Hong Kong Philharmonic. Admired for his maturity, technical command and electric energy on the podium, he brings a Finn’s natural feeling for the music of his compatriot Rautavaara and a young firebrand’s flair to Wagner’s epic sound-world.
