Linz

Brucknerhaus

Linz’s concert hall is named after the composer Anton Bruckner. The Finnish architects Kaija and Heikki Sirén designed it; the foundation stone was laid in 1969 and building ran until 1973. It opened on 23 March 1974, when Herbert von Karajan conducted the Vienna Philharmonic in Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony, so the Wiener Philharmoniker were there from the first night. Its main room is the Brucknersaal. The house is home to the International Brucknerfest Linz, and since 1979 it has been linked with the Linzer Klangwolke, an open-air sound event in the Danube park that draws very large crowds.
