Gashouder

The Gashouder is a former gas holder on the site of the Westergasfabriek, the gasworks in the west of Amsterdam that supplied the city with coal gas until 1967. It was built in the first years of the twentieth century; sources give 1902 or 1903. The factory grounds are now the Westergas culture park, and the Gashouder is one of its halls: a single round room under a cast-iron roof, used for concerts, dance events and fairs. According to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, which says it has given concerts there since 2005, the building closed in early 2025 for an extensive renovation.
