Ho Guom Opera House

Ho Guom Opera is one of Hanoi’s newest stages, opened on 9 July 2023 at 40 Hang Bai Street, a few minutes’ walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, whose other name, Ho Guom or Sword Lake, it takes. It was built by the Ministry of Public Security together with the Hanoi People’s Committee; work began in December 2021 and took about 22 months. Not to be confused with the French colonial Hanoi Opera House, it is a modern building of some 5,000 square metres, with a 900-seat main auditorium, a 500-seat second hall, and space for exhibitions and conferences. Its lobby is designed to suggest a starry night sky. Besides state and cultural events it hosts visiting ensembles, and the London Symphony Orchestra is among the foreign orchestras that have appeared there.
