National Concert Hall

Taipei’s National Concert Hall is one of a pair of buildings on Liberty Square, facing the National Theater across the plaza, with the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall to the east. Both were designed by the architect Yang Cho-cheng and completed in 1987, and they opened on 31 October that year. Their modern halls sit inside forms borrowed from traditional Chinese palace architecture, with golden tiled roofs, upturned eaves and red columns. Together they make up the National Theater and Concert Hall, often shortened to NTCH, and each building can host more than one event at a time. The Vienna Philharmonic includes the concert hall on its tours of Asia.
