Philharmonie Luxembourg
The Philharmonie Luxembourg, formally the Salle de concerts Grande-Duchesse Joséphine-Charlotte, stands on the Kirchberg plateau in Luxembourg City and opened in 2005. The French architect Christian de Portzamparc won the competition for it in 1997 and wrapped the building in a screen of more than 800 slender white columns, behind which a foyer runs all the way round the main hall. That hall, the Grand Auditorium, seats about 1,500 and is ringed by eight towers of boxes; a separate chamber music hall holds about 300. The Luxembourg Philharmonic is the resident orchestra, and the Wiener Philharmoniker play there on tour.
