Laila Arafah

Laila Arafah is a composer based in London. She studies composition at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2024/25 she was one of the six composers on the London Symphony Orchestra’s Helen Hamlyn Panufnik Composers’ Scheme, and the orchestra subsequently commissioned an orchestral piece from her. Her other commissions have come from the London Contemporary Music Festival, Explore Ensemble, the Carducci Quartet, the London Mozart Players, the Roadrunner Trio in Amsterdam and Quatuor Bozzini in Canada. She describes her music as concerned with time, with resonance and decay, and with forms that grow out of interruption.
