Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Auditorio Alfredo Kraus

The Auditorio Alfredo Kraus stands at one end of Las Canteras beach in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on the edge of the Atlantic. The Catalan architect Óscar Tusquets designed it as a cross between a fortress and a lighthouse. It is named after the tenor Alfredo Kraus, who was born in the city. The symphony hall is known for the large window behind the stage, through which the audience looks out over the sea during a concert. The building is the home of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria and the main Gran Canaria venue of the Festival Internacional de Música de Canarias, held each winter. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra plays there on tour.
